Covering Your Bases // It Cosmetics Illuminating CC Cream Review

Hello everyone! 
 Today I am reviewing It Cosmetics Illuminating CC cream
There are a few of you who remember my last "Covering Your Bases" post which was all about the Hourglass Hyaluronic Skin Tint which I stills holds a top shelf space for foundations. I feel the need to disclaim that even though I might find a foundation that is amazing I am always searching to discover new products. That is what we are set out to do here in these Covering Your Bases posts. 


Disclaimers & Intros aside lets get down to reviewing the foundation/CC cream.. 

There is quite a bit of hype surrounding the original IT Cosmetics CC Cream and I thought about picking up that one. However, the Illumination version was a more recent release and caught my attention just a little bit more. 

Packaging// Design 

I really like the packaging of this product. It looks like just a normal tube but when you take the cap off there is a pump at the end. ( Hooray for pumps!!) Tube packaging can be annoying as you reach the end of the product much like toothpaste you can never seem to get that last drop out!. Why can't toothpaste have pump like packaging? ( Wouldn't that be convenient?) 
The tube has a slightly pink/holographic tinge to it making it look pretty cute and distinguishable from the original CC cream and the type face they used for "illumination" is quite cute, makes it quite appealing to look at.

Color Range // 

I think one of the cons for this product is its color range. Its not very large, only five shades. I had a tough time picking out my ideal shade. Between Fair and Light I ended up going with Light because Fair seemed too pale at the time ( even though I have a complexion of a ghost).
Overall, I find the shade Light to be an okay match for me however I do not know if I am alone on this, but the color almost has a dull/grayish tone to it and not as bright as I would like it.  To remedy this I tend to mix it in with a drop or two of the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops ( I am in the shade G20)  to brighten and make the color suit my skin more which seems to do the trick.

Application // 

This CC cream applies very smoothly onto the skin. You do not need to pump out a lot for the entire face since it spreads out very nicely. 
Much like the Hourglass Skin Tint I am fond of this has a thicker looking consistency but feels very light and weightless on skin. I still prefer using the Beauty Blender ( as my weapon of choice) which blends this product seamlessly into skin and does not take great amounts of effort either. 

Coverage // 

The selling point for me personally for this product is its contrast of "type" and "result". Typically, a CC cream or a BB cream type of base will only provide a sheer amount of coverage rarely reaching a medium coverage. This CC cream stands out from whats on the market because it touts its truthful CC cream name by having a weightlessness texture and improving skin tone, but provides medium to full coverage. Which is amazing to me and I really do appreciate that from this foundation. I really like having a full coverage base when I wear makeup, but its nice to have it not feel like I have a very full coverage sitting on top of my skin. 

Overall Thoughts// 

I am really happy I tried out this CC cream. As I watch all my favorite British youtubers in my subscription feed lately I have been seeing all their US beauty hauls all containing the original It Cosmetics CC cream. Its a very hot item right now and its always exciting to me to actually see what all the hype is about. To recap I really love the packaging for this product. I think the way it was designed makes it really easy to travel with and use daily without much fuss. I also really like the very light lemon scent it has which some people may not like but it does not last once it sets down. I appreciate the high coverage and the very dewy finish that is unique to the "Illumination" version of this product. I have read some complaints of there being glitter in this product but I personally haven't really noticed any excess of glitter and even so I would still like it anyway ( bring on the glitter!). Also, the high SPF factor of 50 ( with UVA and UVB) protection is pretty fantastic of them provide. My only beef with this product is the color selection. I think its pretty slim and difficult because the shades differ very dramatically from each other. I thought the shade Fair would be the one for me but it was so extremely pale and stark. The shade Light, the one I chose, although pretty good has this weird gray/dull tone to it that leads me to mix it with another product to make it match perfectly. Overall, I give this product a B+ it would have gotten an A if not for the color selection. Other than that, I am very pleased with everything about this product and I would recommend it to those who were possibly thinking about giving it a try.

Covering Your Bases// Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint

Hello everyone, happy Tuesday & St Patricks Day for those who celebrate ( Erin Go Bragh)! I hope you are all having a great week so far. I just want to warn you all to be prepared for quite a tale leading up to this review. Have your tea ( or beverage of choice at the ready its probably gonna be a long one). That being said, I hope you enjoy. 

So its been a while since I last wrote a "Covering Your Bases" post. Ever since discovering the Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme I had not tried out any new foundations. I thought, "Yes I have found the perfect foundation for me! A foundation that gives full coverage, wears well on the skin etc.." 
However, when this winter hit New England my skin went through hell, and my beloved Becca foundation was looking dry and flaky and was not holding up well on my skin at all. 

As you will read in a future post this dry skin issue was throughout. I was trying hydrating primers, moisturizers, etc to keep my skin hydrated and to prevent my foundation from clinging to dry patches. They helped a little but by the end of the day I was still looking pretty rough. 
Next- I was really curious about the launch of the new NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation. I had read some reviews, some of them were raving and others were not a fan. I took a sample pot home and gave it a shot. The first day of wear I liked it, the shade I picked was not quite right but I went with it. It seemed to wear alright, still was looking a teeny bit dry at the end of the day, but I was feeling optimistic. I picked up another sample pot of it in the correct shade for my skin and wore it the following day at work. 
Within the 5 hour duration of my shift, my foundation took a turn for the worse. This foundation clung to dryness like crazy and had disintegrated on large portions of my face leaving me looking like a hot mess. After my shift I strolled over to Sephora, ( still conveniently located right across from work). I was racking my brain of moisturizing bases that would still give me decent coverage. I was looking at my "hot mess" face in the mirror contemplating, when one of the employees that I know greeted me. I showed them my woe and pleaded for some guidance. They handed me into the care of another employee who also deals with similar skin to mine to help me out. Instead of being given another sample, I was invited to come and have my foundation redone. We took everything off and started from scratch. 
First we tried the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation which I knew had great coverage and only guessed that it might have more moisture. Halfway through application, it was looking just as bad as the NARS Foundation. We took it all off and started again, next trying out her suggestion which was the Hourglass Hyaluronic Skin Tint. 
The name of this base is pretty misleading I think "Skin Tint" and I assume : " tinted moisturizer/BB cream hybrid with barely there coverage"  
However, this foundation packs a lot more punch than its name would suggest and the kicker was that it made my skin look healthy and DEWY! ( aka: NOT A DRY FLAKY MESS! whoo hoo!) I couldn't stop looking at my skin, it had been so long since my skin had not looked dry. I picked this guy up right away and might have even clicked my heels in joy leaving the store. 
( And my skin and I lived happily ever after. The End.) 

Just kidding! Now I have to give you guys a proper review. 

Packaging// Design 

Hourglass is kinda known for its sleek packaging and design. Always going for eye catching metallic packaging ( also known for pesky fingerprint marks). For this product they went with a shiny cap but a smooth, wide, lightweight tube making this easy to travel with. The nozzle inside is narrow enough to distribute product but not squeeze out too much. The wide cap is also nice because it will stand up on its own. My only gripe with tube packaging like this is when it starts to get low, it can be difficult to get product out. 

Color Range//

The Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint comes in 12 shades. On the Sephora website they all look pretty pale but in person this product tends to be a tiny bit darker. I believe based on trying out two of the shades on my skin that this range tends to cater more towards yellow undertones despite the description of the shades catering to pink, yellow and neutral undertones. If you were thinking about this foundation I would definitely have it applied on your skin or take home a sample or two of what you think matches you because its deceiving. My match was the shade "Vanilla" which is described as a very fair pink undertone even though I have a yellow undertone. The shade "Shell" which has a yellow undertone which would have been my guess for a perfect match was a bit too warm on my skin. 

Application//

This foundation has a thick consistency when squeezed out onto the back of the hand. However, it smooths on very lightly. This foundation definitely applies better with either fingers or a damp Beauty Blender. I tend to choose the Beauty Blender, dot the product on each area of the face and then blend. 

Coverage//

As I mentioned above, this foundation has more coverage than a name like "skin tint" would suggest. I would call this a buildable medium coverage base. I usually go for one layer on areas like my forehead and the under-eye area and then add a second layer where I require a bit more coverage like my cheeks and chin. I like to go in afterwards with my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and spot conceal. I really like the finished result, it is very dewy looking so if you are not so much into that look I would just dust a bit of powder on.

Overall Thoughts//

This foundation was formulated with Hyaluronic Acid. An ingredient that has been quite popular in the beauty community. Hyaluronic Acid is an ingredient that delivers mega hydration and firming of the skin. Which is why this foundation gives a hydrated and dewy looking finish. Another plus, is that this foundation has an UVA/UVB SPF 15 which will be nice as the weather gets warmer. It feels very smooth on the skin and lasts pretty much all day. Especially when used with primer/setting spray. The price for Hourglass is pretty steep. Retailing for $55 at Sephora. However, even though I have probably said this before a dozen times during a foundation review: If the product is really really good I will gladly pay every dime for it.

MON// Makeup On The Run - What's In My Makeup Bag

The "hustle bustle" life is a hard one to get used to even though it is the reality for many. This includes, occasionally giving up the luxury of meticulous and enjoyable makeup application and instead just quickly slapping some on because you may...I don't know.. wake up only to find yourself running really late- a predicament I have been finding myself in lately, so I wanted to share with you my basic makeup kit that comes with me in my purse that can get me through the week days where I have to hustle and bustle from morning till evening. 

Face//Complexion

I much prefer liquid foundation, currently I have been loving my Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme( which you can read more about here X ) However, I don't always have time to apply that so instead I opt for my Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation ( X ) . Using their specialized "air buki" brush I can quickly pat and swirl the foundation onto my face and "woli'a" foundation done. I am surprised at the decent coverage this stuff gives especially since I have been dealing with pretty terrible skin. Currently, none of my foundations cover all of my blemishes completely. It's just the frustration I have to deal with for now until I can properly sort out my skin. I also like to bring this foundation with me for light touch ups throughout the day. 

For concealer, I take my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, ( x) . The one I have is in the shade Vanilla, a shade darker than the shade I normally get in Chantilly. I have this one because I ran out of my previous tube and all my local Sephora had in stock for me was Vanilla. I find that its not too much of a bother because this concealer blends into the skin so beautifully and seamlessly. Its perfect for covering up blemishes and also its great at combating those under eye circles.

Brows//Eyes

For quick fuss-free eye makeup I prioritize the brows first. My eyebrows are pretty full and dark but require a little filling here and there and also a quick comb through to make them nice and neat. Currently, I have been using the NYX Auto Eyebrow Pencil in the shade, Brown.  I got this pencil as cheaper alternative to the Anastasia Brow Wiz which I have used and loved in the past. I do find that this shade is a tad on the warm side and does not match my brow hair color quite right but I think it does the job. I also prefer a spooly brush in comparison to the brush attached to this product. 

For the eyes I recently was gifted this adorable mini travel size Smashbox Full Exposure eye shadow palette from my lovely blogger friend Sydney! ( check out her blog here! X) Among other glorious goodies she sent me I have found this palette to be so incredibly useful! It is smaller than my phone and fits perfectly in my makeup bag. The color selection is very well put together and thought out for a tiny little palette. You have a mix of shimmers and matte shades, all neutral colors for easy day time looks. I usually pat the creamy shimmery color all over the lid and inner corner with my finger to brighten the eyes a bit and then I round out the look with the dark brown matte shade blended into the crease and outer edge with my MAC 217 brush. So easy I barely even have to think about it! After the eye shadow is done I quickly swipe mascara onto my upper and lower lashes with a mini Makeup Forever Smoky Extravagant Lash Mascara I received in a Sephora birthday gift. This mascara is really nice, the brush has a nice tapered edge so you can really get the inner lashes evenly coated though I do recommend wiping extra product off the brush before applying, as this brush picks up a lot of product and could leave you with quite a mascara dilemma if not cautious.   

I don't carry my beloved Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector ( x)  or my blush/bronzer Flushed Palette from Urban Decay (x) with me as they simply will not fit in my current makeup bag. In place of highlighter I will sometimes take the shimmery cream shade from the aforementioned Smashbox palette and run that on my brow bone and upper cheek for some highlighting magic on my face. 

Lips

Lastly, the lips. I just recently spoke about my love for my NARS Audacious Lipstick in the shade Charlotte (X) but, in my "On The Go Makeup Bag" I tote around a lipstick from The BodyShop in their Color Crush line. It is a deep garnet color called " Crazy, Sexy, Crimson". I don't know who thought up that name but regardless, I am crazy in love with this lipstick. It feels ultra moisturizing on the lips and very comfortable. It also leaves a pleasant stain in its wake after wearing it for a couple hours. Also, this lipstick only runs to $12.50 which I think is a outright bargain! I know dark red is not an easy everyday shade like a nude pink but, for me that is what takes my really simplified look to a higher level of sophistication. Red lips are just so classic and feminine and it just makes me feel like I am put together. 

And that completes it! That is all I take with me in my makeup bag! Its all very simple so that I can do my makeup extremely quick but still feel like I am looking pretty good for the day.  I hope you all enjoyed it.

MON// NARS Audacious Lipstick/ Charlotte

Hello everyone! How has the world been treating you? I have been managing a whole lot on my plate lately, which has been rough but I am hoping I can piece my life back together by the end of this month. ( whew! deep breaths) 
One of the best things that happened this month was receiving the loveliest package in the mail from my new blogger friend, Sydney, who runs a fantastic blog herself. She sent me amazing little bundle of beauty goodies. One of those goodies was this, The NARS Audacious Lipstick in the shade Charlotte. All I can say is that I am extremely thankful to receive a generous gift such as this. ( I am floored!)  I had been wanting one of these lipsticks for a while. This is a product from NARS's new and improved collection of lipsticks and they are no short of breathtaking. ( Well done Nars, you've done it again.) 

Packaging//Desgin

One of the most winning aspects of the NARS Audacious collection is its packaging. In one word its luxe. Sleek, and modern with the subtle branding on the package and on the lipstick bullet itself. Not only that, but the cap to the lipstick is magnetic, creating that satisfying *click* upon closing. ( Gets me every time, it is just so satisfying!)  

"Charlotte Sometimes"//  In my growing collection of lipsticks I still remain true to wearing reds and dark berry tones, especially now that it is autumn. Charlotte is described as a "oxblood burgundy". When swatched, I also find this shade has a hint of berry color in it. Its a perfect vampy shade for this autumn season. 

Formula//Texture 

NARS Audacious Lipsticks have a ultra soft creamy texture with full color saturation. It feels weightless on the lips and does not slip and slide nor does it feel too dry. All and all its a very comfortable lipstick to wear and it is very long lasting. Honestly, it probably would last a little bit longer on my lips if I weren't rubbing my lips together all the time. ( bad habit.) However, when it does wear off I do find that it leaves a pleasant stain in its wake instead of a patchy mess.  

Price//

Now, NARS is not known for being affordable or anything so it is not surprising to find that their new lipsticks do not come cheap. We are talking $32 a pop. However, this lipstick is a real treat and I believe one should be allowed to treat themselves to a nice lipstick once in a while. Had a rough time lately? Get yourself a smashing lipstick from the NARS Audacious Collection! You deserve it gorgeous!

SUN// Shine Bright: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector

This highlighter may be the best highlighter you will ever try in your life. After dabbing it lightly on my cheekbones one fine day in Sephora I was head over heels. This handsome devil has stolen many a heart in the beauty blogging and Youtube community. This highlighter, in its pressed form or liquid form is hands down Becca's signature product. 

Packaging//Design:

The packaging on this product is very modern, so modern in fact when closed it looks like a mini U.F.O. However despite it looking like it might just hover away into the galaxy the packaging on this product is very solid and the big mirror is always an added bonus. 

The Texture

I am commenting on texture for this highlighter because it is so different from any other powder highlighters I have tried in the past. Its creamy..yes, its still a powder but it feels like butter when you touch it. This is due to the unique formulation which blends together pigments and liquid binders. All that mumbo jumbo essentially means the result of this is a creamy application and balanced color.

Glow, Baby Glow!// Final Thoughts  

There are six glowy shades to choose from in the range// Moonstone, Opal, Rose Gold, Topaz and a new shade called Champagne Gold. I chose Opal which is described on the web as a golden, opal pearl ( who would'a thought!) The glow this product gives is so seamless. Its not glittery it is that beautiful sheen that you seen on the models. I concentrate mainly on my cheekbones but I also lightly dust on my forehead, down the bridge of my nose and lastly on my cupids bow. I think this would also be great as a finishing touch to eye shadow to pop a little glow in there too! This product is a little pricey coming to $44 dollars. However, I think its well worth the investment and my favorite product to apply in my makeup routine at the moment. If you want a glow from out of this world, this highlighter needs to be in your life.

F R I : R E V I E W // Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow

Hi guys, Today is Friday! Is that a relief to anyone? I am getting over a little cold myself. I have been attacking it with good ol' soup and orange juice and I am feeling much better now. 

Recently, I have been a little bit on a spending ban. I have made plenty of trips to Sephora empty handed in recent weeks. However, when I swatched this liquid eye shadow on my hand it had to come home with me. This is the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eye shadow -- Rio De Rose Gold. 
  

Sometimes you just have to look at a swatch to be sold on something. Am I right ladies?

If you are a fan of the Naked Three Palette by Urban Decay, this shadow is it's new partner in crime. This looks great as a base and even better as a glimmering finishing touch to a look with the Naked Three palette or any other "romantic" eye look. All you have to do is shake, shake, shake! to mix the coconut water and pigment and apply lightly, you don't need that much. Wa la! your done and gorgeous! There is not that much else to say. But, if you are a fan of Rose Gold I would highly recommend you pick this one up.

F O U N D A T I O N- R E V I E W : Tarte Amazonian Clay Mineral Foundation

Hello my dears, hope you are all well. Today I finally bring you another foundation review! Featuring: 

Tarte's Amazonian Clay Airbrush Mineral Foundation. 

A little while ago I picked this up during Sephora's 15% VIB sale. I was intrigued by all the rave reviews I had heard about it and wanted to try it out myself.

I don't tend to be a mineral foundation girl, they usually don't give me the right amount of coverage and usually the packaging gets to me. Having to use the plastic sifters 

(not getting enough product out or way too much and thus getting powder all over you. ugh.) I just have had bad luck with powder foundation however after some research I was read to give this guy a try. 

 Packaging/Design

   I wanted to highlight Tarte's impeccable    packaging on this product first and foremost because it addresses one of my biggest problems with loose mineral foundations. It  has a net sifter! When you push down with     your brush the product transfers on the brush.  The cover also has a stopper so product does not get out when you travel with it! The rest of the design is really pretty too with     Tarte's famous "bamboo look" and the container looks like frosted amber glass. Really sleek and down to earth. I like!

Color Range

I really like Tarte's color range for this product with 11 different shades to choose from with both pink + yellow + neautrel undertone choices.

Tarte has made it pretty easy to find your shade which most of us would find convenient. I am in the shade : fair honey ( fair skin with peach undertones) ( because I am a fair and pale lady!)

Application

  The application is simple but I was  persnickety about the brush that is supposed to be used with this product. The "airbuki"  kabuki brush. I thought I could get away using this foundation with my Real Techniques Buffing brush and I tested it out for a couple weeks. 

It worked okay, it didn't help me spread the powder evenly across my face. I wasn't convinced so eventually I caved and got the    "airbuki" which is the one that works better  of the two but it wasn't a drastic  difference. I might have lived without it but  hey, its also super cute. (Whaddya goin do?) 

Coverage

Alright, so as I was using this upon first application I made a very contemplative face while looking at the mirror. Unlike, my Sephora Airbrush Liquid base, this product does not make the face look flawless in the first few seconds you wear it. It might even leave you unimpressed. HOWEVER, when you have finished the rest of your makeup and you have let everything set in it starts looking better...then maybe a few hours later. It 

looks mighty impressive. I am not sure what 

kind of sorcery is in this but this product really does look better with wear! 

Finish

Besides the sorcery of looking better with wear the finish is just... natural!

 It just looks like skin when you put it on. Does not look powdery or "cakey" and I don't find it makes me too shiny. Along with that note this product does last relatively long on the skin. At least on my skin which is ( dry/combination skin) It just looks nice, nothing more to say about that. 

Price

And lastly comes the price of this baby. Which retails for $36.00. Right in the middle of the road I think. 

However, then you have to tack on the price of the brush which is $26 on it's own which is why I was kinda persnickety about it..( it feels like highway robbery.) 

When it comes down to it the foundation is very worth the price and the brush...maybe not. But, I will leave that to your own discretion.

Product Review: The Balm Mary Lou Manizer

Hello my dears.

It feels like it has been a while, how have you been?

Life, as of late made me feel like I was floating in this bubble 

of bland. Everyday, I would come home from school, run upstairs to my bed and not come out unless I wanted food or tea. I was starting to feel a little of the depression demons kick up. I didn't want to do much of anything, talk to anyone or, do things I normally enjoy doing. Like, being on here with you for instance. 

But, I digress things are starting to lighten up a bit now 

I am feeling more inspired and my daydreams have kicked back into gear. I missed them so. 

Now, onto the review!

After following super-star blogger, Essiebutton for a little while you realize how dangerous her influence is on you!

I blame her for this slightly impulsive purchase but, like I imagined it is quite a beautiful product. 

I am very big on highlighter and highlighting products. 

I really enjoy that dewy skin look on me! So, I knew that this would be a product that would be very well loved.

I ordered this off of Amazon. They were having a deal so I got this for a bargain! ( awesome!)

After it arrived I used it immediately and went a little overboard because of how excited I was.

I was for some reason, under the impression that this product would be shimmery because of how it swatches on the hand. But no this highlighter is so beautifully milled so when applied to the face it creates a very reflective, glow from within effect. I even swipe this a tiny bit on my forehead and feel it gives the face a balanced glow.

It is just, gorgeous. I highly recommend that if you are in the market for a grand highlighter this, should be one to consider.

  

However,to photograph this was a little tricky.

This, was a portrait when I was headed to school. You can see the glow on the top of my cheekbone. Trust me, its much prettier in person!

I have been having a lot of fun learning and trying to make my blog posts more appealing to me. Notice, my new cute pastel social media buttons~ courtesy of blogger: Pancake Ninja. 

I also have been having lots of fun with a free photo editor called Picmonkey! It's super amazing. That is how I created the very cute new little additions to this post. 

I feel satisfied making this blog grow even if I have a very 

intimate audience right now.
